In this week's spaces feature, we cruised down to Little Italy, San Diego to visit Brotures Fixed Gear Bike Shop. It's a part of James Coffee's "The Space," a warehouse hosting various other shops including James Coffee Co., Ajax Shoppe, Homesteez, Specs Optometry, Paradeigm Interactive, The Urban Shave, and of course: Brotures San Diego.
We were greeted by Oscar, a San Diego transplant from Chicago, who introduced us to the concept of Brotures and what it's all about. We grabbed a quick coffee and went straight into Brotures to check out their builds.
Brotures started in Japan with the intent to help grow the urban cycling community. They offer bike services, building, advice, goods, and much more. Their selection of frames and components placed an importance on the modern aspect of urban cycling. You can find great brands such as Leader USA, Dosnoventa, SRAM, and really everything else you need for a dope build.
When we got there, Oscar was working on a private custom build. It was great to see the work in progress and how things were set up in the shop.
Brotures picked a great spot to expand their storefronts. It's definitely a place to go on a weekend if you wanted to grab some coffee, check out some clothes, get a haircut, and get your bike fixed up... all in the same space.
Trispokes, Aerospokes, and S80s hung up across the wall. Wish we could own them all.
If you're ever in San Diego, feel free to go check out Brotures. They also told us they host some group rides from time to time. Great place to make some friends in the urban cycling community.
