Artist of the Week: OG23

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in a small town called Belgrave located in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne in Australia, Nestled amongst the Dandenong Ranges national park as a kid it was a great place to grow up and explore.

When did you get into art and why?

I started my art journey as young graffiti writer but it wasn't until my mid 20's that I really started paying attention to the art world and practicing it myself.

What would you say are some big influences to your creative process?

My influences come from a lot of different places but I would say my most recently Ive been paying attention to mid century design and illustration as well as Naive art and Folk art.

How do you take your coffee?

White with 1 sugar.

Walk us through a day in the life of OG23.

At the moment my schedule is a little all over the place, so my days are always different.
I'm currently based in Los Angeles working on my own projects as well as helping my friends with theirs

Any future projects in the works?

A few murals and I'm working on some paintings for a group show in July at flower Pepper Gallery in Pasadena and exhibition in August with fellow artist Kristopher Raos and clothing label Return To Sender at Haphazard gallery here in LA.

How would you describe your style/what do you seek to express with your work.

I think that my style of painting would be best described as naive and fun, which is what I also am trying to express, I like to paint without thinking to much about rules and just enjoy it and create something I'm happy with.

What type of music do you listen to? Favorite song right now?

A wide range of genres... from electronic to early black metal. Anything good really!
My favorite song right now would have to be Easy St by Amanaz.
