Temitopé Owolabi - Photographer
We see that you're based in Ottawa. How has that influenced your direction of work?
Ottawa has influenced me in many ways. I’d say the fact that the city is so small it keeps me well grounded and focused. In addition, I’d say this city has somewhat given me an opportunity to connect with few genuine creatives around the city.
How did you get into photography and art direction and why would you consider it your passion?
I got into photography last year September. I first started shooting with my iPhone and when I started posting my work on Instagram the feedback I received from supporters and friends pushed me further into considering it as a passion.
What type of music did you grow up listening to and how did that inspire the art you make now?
I grew up listening to 80s & 90s hip hop artists like Biggie, Tupac & Nas. I’d say it inspired me to always hustle everyday and just believe I can achieve success because life can seem to be hard sometimes. Just like how artists use the mic to express themselves, I use the art I make to express myself.
How do you take your coffee?
Dark Roast / Americano with two cream & two sugar.
Walk us through your day-to-day routine.
I try my very best to wake up at 6:00am everyday. Take a shower and grab a quick bite to eat so I can be out the door by 7/7:30am. Balancing my life between being a student/content creator I don’t go a day without being productive unless I’m very sick. Generally I edit photos while listening to soundcloud, and respond to emails late in the day and strive to be in bed by 11:00pm.
What's your favorite type of shot and why do you prefer it?
I love street style shots because they convey meaning and people can always relate to them.
