snapshots: Paolo Martelli

We discovered Paolo Martelli on Instagram. Firstly as a cyclist and secondly as a photographer (both of which, he excels at). After learning more about his background and how he got into photography, we could instantly understand the story behind the minimalistic stylings of his photos. Here's a short interview with Paolo.

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in a pretty grey city in the north of Italy, Brescia. It's closed to Alps, but at that time I had no bike and I was dreaming about the ocean.

When did you get into photography and why?

I studied physiotherapy in Italy, when I finished I decided to leave everything and I moved to Barcelona. There I started to work as “flyerman” (haha) giving flyers of discothecs to tourists all nights..it was fun..watching people all day I started to “see” things that I would like to catch, lines, colors, forms, coincidences..the only way to catch them was throught a camera..so I bought one.

Where would you say is the best place to shoot? Where is place you haven't been to, but always wanted to?

The best one is the one that you don't know, I always need new places to get excited and inspired. I would like to spend one winter in cold north.

How do you take your coffee?

With the right hand, 5 minutes after the food. Small and hot.

Walk us through a day in the life of Paolo Martelli.

If I'm traveling that means I'm in hotel and the best part is breakfast. After breakfast is random but it's all about photography.

If I'm home: I'll wake up normally at 8, then I'll go training with Genesis Cycling Team for about 70-80 km. The afternoon is dedicated to photographs. Sometimes I work in a bar making the best gin tonics ever.

How would you describe your shooting style?

Different, minimal and sometimes sexy.

What type of music do you listen to? What is your favorite song now?

Last month was full of Angus and Julia Stone, but also C.S.I., National or Radiohead. Best song today is “help me lose my mind” from Disclosure
